I promised you all Part 2 of my vacation highlights, so here it is.
Sunday, February 19
Wake up about 10:00am, smelled bacon. It reminded me of home when Dad made pancakes. So I had eggs over easy, toast, bacon and a hash brown patty with a cup of tea. After breakfast, Auntie Chris came over (she lives 2 doors down from Grandma) with her fiance Rob, and noticed my pyjamas. So pyjamas and all a little later, I accompanied her to drop off Rob at someone's house where they were having a NASCAR party (it was the day of the Daytona 500). When he left, I switched to the front seat and we continued down to James Street, where I instantly recognized the old College Park variety store, a place where we often stopped for candy when I was living there. This set off a short drive down "memory lane". I wish I had my camera at the time
We turned onto Redwood Avenue, and I saw my old elementary school (St. Vincent), which hadn't changed in over 20 years. Then it was a quick turn onto University Drive, and another onto Inglewood Crescent. This was the street I lived on before I moved to Mississauga. And then I saw it...my old house, number 135. I pointed out to my aunt the window on the far right on the second story of the house that used to be my room, and the window with the screen hanging off that used to be Matthew's. I was surprised that the exterior had remained the same after all these years, but it was starting to look a little rundown nonetheless. Leaving the house behind, we headed back into town and stopped at a Tim Horton's on Memorial Avenue because my aunt needed some coffee and she bought me a tea.
We came back to Hargrave Street and I went to my room to put on some clothes because we were going to have dinner at my aunt Diane's house and Aunt Chris was going to drive us. So to pass the time, Grandma and I watched the Olympics until Aunt Chris called to ask if we were ready (Jamie had gone ahead in his van, he had an errand to run).
First we stopped over to pick up Rob, then we headed to Aunt Diane's house on Dease Street. Gotta tell you, dinner was great. She and her partner Debi made a delicious lasagna and Caesar salad. And Aunt Chris made this phenomenal apple dip with cream cheese, caramel and crushed Skor bars that I couldn't get enough of. The phone made the rounds of the table when Aunt Diane called my dad because I didn't bring any of his homemade cheese buns for her. I got a laugh from everyone when it was my turn when I said "Did you know that our old house looks like a crack house?" It was Aunt Chris who prompted me to say that, but I knew it was just jokes.
Anyway, part 3 next time!
